PENNESHAW

Penneshaw is a seaside village with a population of approximately 450 people, situated on the coast of Kangaroo Island, South Australia. 

 

The town is the home of: the SeaLink Ferry Terminal; a hotel; motel; several food/coffee shops; IGA supermarket; Australia Post office/banking facilities; Tourism Kangaroo Island Information Centre; Christmas Cove Marina; a clean, safe swimming beach; jetty to fish from; golf course; oval and tennis courts.

 

Day trips can be made to all the attractions Kangaroo Island has to offer, whether to Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch or Seal Bay.

 

There are several food and wine destinations in the vicinity of Kingscote, a 45-minute drive from Penneshaw. Islander Estate Cellar Door, Kangaroo Island Brewery, Island Pure Sheep Dairy and KI Spirits (KIS), to name a few. Dudley Wines is 20 minutes along Cape Willoughby Road. Lovely views, food and coffee and of course wine. Check with Tourism Kangaroo Island Information Centre on arrival in Penneshaw for all opening times or check the current Kangaroo Island Visitor Guide.

 

Penneshaw has a lot to offer those who wish to relax, fish, swim, walk and enjoy the local wildlife. Farmers' Markets are held in Penneshaw the first Sunday of the month. The Kangaroo Island Community Markets are also held when cruise ships arrive in summer. There will be 30 ships arriving during the summer season, 2018/2019. Dolphins or seals passing by along the coast and beach are a common sight and you may even spot a whale. 

In Penneshaw and Kingscote there are marine tours available. Contact Tourism Kangaroo Island for current information. The 'Little Penguins' are another popular resident viewed after dark. At the Penneshaw Penguin Information Centre you can learn all about these delightful creatures. 

 

The Kangaroo Island Tourism Information Centre has an excellent range of gifts, souvenirs, island books and all the information you require for an enjoyable stay. It is situated on Howard Drive, the road leading out of Penneshaw.

GETTING THERE

 

BY FERRY:

 

Kepals on the Coast is located only a short drive from the SeaLink Ferry Terminal in Penneshaw. SeaLink operate a daily ferry service from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw, the closest point between Kangaroo Island and the mainland. The drive to Cape Jervis from Adelaide takes approximately 1.5 hours through the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula. The ferry crossing from Cape Jervis to Kangaroo Island takes approximately 45 minutes. Check-in time is 30 minutes prior to departure. For those not travelling with a vehicle, SeaLink offer coach connections in Adelaide and a shuttle service on the island.

BY AIR:

Regular flights to and from Kangaroo Island are available, and the newly-upgraded Kingscote Airport now takes flights direct from interstate. Hire cars are available for collection at the airport. Bookings are essential. Cars can also be hired in Penneshaw.  Coach tours of Kangaroo Island are available.  Advance reservations for ferry, coaches, tours and car hire are essential.
